Engage our Community

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." This quote from Margaret Mead explains why an engaged community of caring individuals is an integral part of our mission. It's the thing that will change the world.

Raise Awareness

While it's important to raise awareness about homelessness, it's equally important to raise awareness of what people can do to make strides in the fight against homelessness. The first step to solving a problem is letting people know that there is a problem. But the second and more important step is doing something about it. That's why we're here. And that's why we need you.

Educate to Prevent

Part of solving a problem is taking the right steps to prevent it from recurring in the future. One of our objectives is to help jumpstart educational programs that will help people recognize the signs that lead to homelessness along with how and where to get the right help to prevent someone from becoming homeless. Becoming educated and better informed is a critical step in ending homelessness.

2.5 MILLION

One quarter of homeless people are children. Every year 2.5 million children experience homelessness. That’s almost the entire population of Chicago. One in every 30 children experiences homelessness every year in the U.S. Children are homeless in every city and state nationwide.

57,000

The number of veterans who are homeless. That's right. Over 57,000 veterans are homeless each night, according to HUD. Nearly 5,000 are female.

25,000+

The estimated number of families who are homeless. Families often have it the hardest among the homeless population. Very few shelters are equipped to house the entire family, so they often split up for periods of time. The struggle continues to be finding ways the entire family can stay together.

67%

67% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, which means that just about any one of us could end up on the streets in as little as three months. So if you think you could never be homeless, perhaps you should think again.
